How Treasure Maps Work

A treasure map is dug up rather than found in a chest. The captured sources describe one route into them: play the mining minigame at a quarry, and if you hit a patch that needs more points than the usual run to break, the minigame produces a Treasure Map. Counts are recorded per region, and both a player-written guide and a guide site put the figure at five maps for a region.

Mining is paid for in one of two ways. You either spend War Funds to dig or you use a Free Mining Pass, and comments in the player thread describe the pass being offered and then declined, with a follow-up prompt offering to pay in gold instead. With a map in hand the loop continues in the field: the map marks a location, the quest log points you toward the search area, and the dig pays out.

Rewards follow a pattern rather than a fixed table. Gold plus equipment or an item is the structure every captured example fits, and that structure holds across regions. The individual payouts differ from example to example, so this page names only the ones a source states directly and attributes each.

The Dig Loop Step by Step

The loop below is what the captured sources describe. Only one of the five steps has a second source behind it, and the notes say which.

  1. Reach a quarry

Guide-site wording: progress and liberate the area that holds the quarry before mining there. That requirement is stated for Drakenhold and is not repeated for other regions in this capture.

  2. Pay for a dig

Spend War Funds or a Free Mining Pass. The player thread records that declining the free pass can lead to a follow-up prompt offering to pay in gold.

  3. Keep digging until a map surfaces

The guide site describes the trigger as hitting an area that requires more points than the general run. A player in the thread reports a long, unlucky stretch chasing a fifth Elheim map, so repeated attempts are normal.

  4. Read the map and the quest log

The walkthrough's wording is that the quest log gives a general idea of where to go, and that the map supplies a marked location to search.

  5. Dig at the site

The payout is gold plus equipment or items, the same shape every captured example follows.

What a Map Does and Does Not Tell You

A map gives you a region and a marked spot, then the quest log sharpens it into an approximate search area. Neither the walkthrough nor the guide site presents this as a coordinate: the phrasing is a general idea and a marked location, which is why players in the community thread describe sweeping an area rather than walking straight to a point.

Maps are numbered within a region, and that numbering is how the sources talk about them, but only Drakenhold has a per-map listing in this capture and it has its own page here. If a dig does not spawn where a description suggests, the captured sources offer nothing beyond the in-game map marker and quest log, and they do not claim otherwise.

Reward Examples the Sources Actually Give

These are documented examples, not a complete reward table. Each one keeps the attribution of the source that recorded it, and none of them should be read as a rule about what a given map pays.

  • Drakenhold Map 1 according to an IGN walkthrough: 6000g, a Miracle Fruit and the Master's Gauntlets, with the dig site described as the open area northwest of Dreibaum Town, in the top-middle part of the clearing.
  • Cornia Map 1 and Map 2 according to a player in the community thread: gold alongside a Miracle Fruit and a Hallowed Blade for the first, and gold alongside a Dew of Illusion and Guardian Gloves for the second.
  • Elheim Map 1 and Map 2 according to a different player in the same thread: the first map's payout described as a bow, and the second as a Thunderclap Ring plus a Dew of Illusion.

What This Page Cannot Cover

There is no complete per-region listing in this capture. Pages that promise every map location appear in search results, but their bodies were not retrieved, and one candidate thread on the topic returned a body too short to use, so this page cannot honestly present a full position-and-reward picture.

Locations are documented well enough for a separate page in Drakenhold only, and other regions appear as scattered single examples rather than lists. Counts rest on the two sources that agree on five per region. The guide site describes the digging threshold in a single sentence with no numbers behind it, and the requirement to liberate the quarry area is stated for Drakenhold alone, so it is not generalised here. The community thread also contains reports of an additional map beyond the five in a region, but the accounts contradict each other on how it would be unlocked, so this page leaves the claim out instead of reporting a guess.
