How gifting actually works

Two captured sources describe the same rule: gifts go to characters you have stationed as guards, and they build Rapport between that character and Alain. The town must be liberated and restored first, through its battle stage and the Restoration Request deliveries. Guards can still be deployed in battle.

The second half is preference: a gift in the character's favourite category produces a distinct excited response and more Rapport. The category names below are the community thread's own log, not an official set.

  • Category names in the captured thread: Attire, Arts, Tea, Amusement, Drinking, Decorations, Preparing Food, Confections and Finery.
  • The thread's own note is that no character was found to have Finery as a preferred gift, and that Finery items are sold by the Black Market dealer rather than town Provisioners.

Steps: town, guard, gift

  1. Liberate and restore a town

Complete the battle stage and the Restoration Request deliveries; guard slots open once the town is restored, per the captured guide site.

  2. Station the character you want to raise as a guard

Gifts given to anyone else do not build Rapport with Alain.

  3. Get gifts

The thread reports 300G from town Provisioners and many free from deliveries and missions; Finery items come from the Black Market dealer.

  4. Give the gift in the character's preferred category

Match the category, not the raw value: a high base value is not proof an item is a favourite, the thread notes.

  5. Read the reaction

A distinct excited response marks a hit; a flat reply means the category was wrong.

Why the category matters more than the price tag

The thread's author observed that each character has a favourite category, that those gifts give more Rapport, and that a higher price does not make an item anyone's favourite. Reaction therefore beats number: a cheap item in the right category is a hit, an expensive one in the wrong category a shrug. The thread's clearest example: a cooking-themed gift given after a character's cooking dialogue landed flat.

What the captured thread actually lists

These item, category and Rapport values come from the community thread and its comments: trial-and-error results from a 2024 thread, several written from memory by the contributor who checked them. Read them as a starting point, not a verified table.

Community-reported gift values, none of them cross-checked against a second source. Two figures mean the item was seen at more than one value; verify by reaction, not by number.

If the gain looks small or you cannot bulk up

  • A small gain from an expensive gift usually means the wrong category; check the reaction first.
  • To raise several characters at once, the captured sources call tavern meals more efficient: one meal covers several attendees.
  • Whether Provisioner stock refreshes is unresolved: one commenter suspected limited supplies and saw taverns as the fallback, and no captured source confirms either answer.

Current version and open questions

This page is marked needs-review because the answer to its main question, what each character likes, is only partly available. The list above comes from one community thread updated in March 2024, and every value is that thread's own testing, not a datamined or official figure. Version scope is v1.05 era, observed 2026-09-26.

  • The complete character-to-gift table lived on an external sheet linked from the thread and was not captured: the biggest gap on this page.
  • The community wiki Gifts page returned an empty body in our capture, which is a capture failure rather than evidence that the page has no content.
  • No captured source ties the gift system to a patch, so the values are not version-verified beyond the thread's own date.
  • The video mapped to this keyword in our batch (ONVo10jeA-U) contains no gift or Rapport material at all and contributes nothing here.
